Candle Safety First!
I have often been asked why we don't add embellishments to our candles and the answer I always give is "Safety". Any thing that can burn once placed into the wax will burn at some point. The National Candle Association just released an article urging candle makers to be careful about what they add to their candles that may be potentially dangerous. Ultimately anything you add to a candle effects how it performs. Just like adding an accelerant to a fire adding things like cinnamon sticks or rose petals while they look lovely and add to the cold throw of the candle also present a huge danger to the end user. Once those items are added to the candle the over all ability to trust the candle should be in question. Any of those items can become wax logged and or potentially catch on fire. While a single rose petal may have a very small chance of turning the candle into a raging ball of fire it seems like its a risk that to many are willing to take. There are many embellishments that are stable and can not burn that can be safely added to the candle and at some point in the future we may choose to go down this route but for now please enjoy our hand made and hand poured candles as they are.
